Last week, the militants ran over a military base within Southwest region, although SNA soldiers were able to contain them with the help of Kenya Defense Forces.

On Monday night, reports indicate, the militants planted an Improvised Explosive Device at Bardale town in a military base manned by SNA soldiers.

Although there were no casualties reported, it remains unclear how the militants accessed the base without fireworks. Investigations have commenced.

"Explosion was reported at a Southwest regional military base in Bardale town, Bay region on Monday; there has been no casualties reported. Officials are investigating how the device ended up inside the military base," wrote Harun Maruf, VOA reporter.

The attack comes amid reports that Al-Shabaab defectors are being recruited to the forces without proper vetting, something which compromises security.

Also, Somalia government is at loggerheads with Kenya Defense Forces, accusing it of launching attacks on infrastructure that are essential in development.

The ICT minister projected KDF and to a larger extent Kenya as an enemy, who is out to destroy the country's economy which has struggled for decades since 1990.

“We urge AMISOM to engage with the Somali government in the investigation of these repeated attacks and believe it is important to take appropriate action against this adversary who targets our economy and business per international law,” the Minister of Taxation said.
