A man believed to be Tanzanian is on the run after he scalded his former Kenyan wife.
Winnie Wambua, 24, is nursing serious burn injuries at the Coast Provincial General Hospital after her estranged husband, Henry Mugonda, scalded her with a mixture of hot water and cooking oil.
Winnie told K24 Digital that the man wanted her back after they had parted ways some time back.
However, she turned down his request, which prompted him to burn her in revenge.
According to Winnie, the man had a well-organised plan of inflicting injuries on her.
“On December 13, he came to my workplace and asked if I could reunite with him. Just like before, I said ‘no’ to his request. He got angry, and told me: ‘I will ensure I inflict on you the same pain that I am feeling for losing you’. He, thereafter, walked out of the salon and went to a nearby building, where I had seen him store a kitchen stove. I did not know why he had carried a cooking appliance with him.
After 30 minutes, he came back to the hair salon carrying a jug that contained a mixture of hot water and cooking oil, and scalded me with the liquid
Based on his actions, he had pre-planned the whole attack," she narrated to K24.
Police say the man now on the run was last traced at Horohoro, Kenya-Tanzania border, an indication he was trying to cross back to his home country.
