Kenya Sevens Technical Director Paul Feeney made this change following the injury blow to captain Collins Injera.

Citizen Digital was told on Friday that Injera has been ruled out of the competition with a shoulder injury he sustained during a past match.

The 2019 Africa Sevens will also act as the qualifiers for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics qualifiers in Johannesburg, South Africa.

However, it should be noted that this is not Amonde's first time to led the Shujaa as a captain.

During the Safari Sevens competitions, he was named the captain. The team managed to finish in third position.

He will take up this position and will be deputized by Jeffrey Oluoch and Jacob Ojee.

It comes as a big blow to the Kenya Sevens, for Injera, who is the Kenya’s HSBC top try scorer, to miss out in the squad of such a crucial competition.

However, they will have the services of Willy Ambaka, Alvin Otieno, Bush Mwale, Billy Odhiambo and Nelson Oloo.

The 2019 Africa sevens have come up with a new format of pooling teams.

Kenya will play Ivory Coast in their first match on 8 November. Winning this game will mean they will proceed to the next level.

According to the new format, they will proceed to Pool B as B1.
