The incident happened as a Pentagon official prepared to testify to members of the impeachment committee.

Impeachment proceedings were temporarily abandoned to allow the confusion and chaos to peter out.

Representative Steve Scalise said that all members of Congress and the press should have been allowed into the room where the impeachment enquiry hearings were ongoing.

"It should not be allowed in the United States of America. Every member of Congress ought to be allowed in that room. The press ought to be allowed in that room," Steve Scalise said.

The protest came on the heels of devastating testimony that President Trump pressured the Ukrainian government to open an inquiry on his possible presidential challenger in return for aid.

President Trump has refuted claims that there was a quid pro quo situation.

Media reports indicated that the irate Republicans carried with them mobile phones and other communication gadgets, a clear violation of rules and regulations governing the conduct of impeachment inquiries.

"BREAKING: I led over 30 of my colleagues into the SCIF where Adam Schiff is holding secret impeachment depositions. Still inside – more details to come," Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz tweeted.
