The burial of Chuka University student, Maureen Wanjiku Mwihaki has been postponed.
Wanjiku, 22, was murdered under unclear circumstances.
A court in Murang’a on Thursday ordered for the halting of the burial until a case linked to her murder is determined.
Four suspects have since been arrested and detained over the suspicious death of the student.
The postponement came after two lawyers, who are representing two suspects linked to the case, obtained court orders to stop the event.
The family of the deceased will suffer more losses after it emerged that the burial plans were almost done before the new development.
The investigation side has asked the court to give it more time to collect more evidence in the quest to unravel the cause of the student’s death.
The two lawyers, who are representing Allan Muchangi and Brenda Wanjiru respectively, want the court to direct for the preservation of the body of the deceased until the hearing and determination of the case.
The prosecution also wants the suspects to undertake a mental test.
The other suspects, Maureen Wambui and Joseph Weru Wairimu are yet to present lawyers to represent them in the courtroom.
The deceased's family also didn’t present a lawyer or any family member in court to represent them.
“I order that the body of the deceased be preserved until the hearing and determination of the application by the investigating officer Pius Kasuni,” Resident Magistrate Sheila Nyaga ruled.
Family spokesman David Njoroge Maina, however, said that they were informed of the suspects trial.
