Makueni MP Daniel Maanzo has asked the government to compensate the family of Mariam Kighenda and her daughter Amanda Mutheu who perished in Mombasa.
The two plunged into the Indian Ocean on September 29 and their bodies were recovered 13 days later.
Speaking on Sunday, Maanzo said that the death of the two was caused by the government for failing to ensure proper measures are put in place.
Maanzo stated that the ideal thing to do is compensate Mariam's husband, John Wambua who is devastated for losing wife and daughter.
"Investigations should be done and action taken against those responsible and the government should compensate Wambua for his loss," said Maanzo.
He went ahead to state that the government should ensure the ferries are always in good condition.
"We have seen that out of the five ferries only one can be closed so the cars can fall in case of anything. Also some of them have rust this meaning of they are not repaired any time we could be starig at another tragedy," He said.
Wambua on Sunday stated that he doesn't believe his wife reversed the car because she was an experienced driver noting that it was evident because the car was in parking mode and the handbrake was activated.
An autopsy of Mariam and her daughter is expected to be conducted on Monday before their burial in Ngaamba area, Kilome Sub-County, Makueni.
