Speaking in Gem, Siaya County on Friday at Church of Christ Africa function, Raila said that he didn’t agree to work with President Uhuru Kenyatta because of his personal gains.

The African Union Special envoy said that he means well for the country after he decided to bury his differences with Uhuru, who is completing his second and final term in office.

"My political friendship with the President is not for my personal gain but for all Kenyans," said Raila, as quoted by Standard.

Raila also said that he is not happy with the fact that his people continue to suffer yet some leaders are condemning him for the handshake. He said that he doesn’t want to benefit from the handshake in any way.

He reminded Kenyans that he is not ready for the insults anymore. The opposition further said that the handshake is not for the Luo or Kikuyu community but all Kenyans.

He further said that President Uhuru, who has insisted that he doesn’t want sideshows, has good plans for this nation. He also said that corruption has affected the economy of this nation. He urged leaders to stand up against the vice for the sake of economic development.
