Former presidential candidate and renowned scholar Prof James Ole Kiyiapi appeared to support the dissolution of the Taita Taveta county administration.
In a reply to a tweet by former Taita Taveta Woman Rep Joyce Lay on Saturday, the scholar called on President Uhuru Kenyatta to crack the whip on the county leaders who are embroiled in an ongoing tussle.
Kiyiapi agreed with Lay that the head of state needed to do something to bring the tussle ton an end.
"Agree. The President should give the entire lot of them marching orders. Otherwise we will continue to have jokers in the name of leaders. They betrayed the trust of the people - their greed must not be rewarded!" Prof Ole Kiyiapi wrote.
His intervention comes amid speculation on what action President Uhuru Kenyatta will take after receiving a petition from Governor Samboja to dissolve the Taita Taveta County administration.
A dissolution will mean that fresh elections will be held in the county to elect leaders of the county.
Governor Samboja told members of the press about two weeks ago that efforts to resolve issues amicably with MCAs had hit a snag.
He said that he had reached the requisite threshold of signatures to petition the president to dissolve the county administration.
