ODM party leader Raila Odinga has announced the first vetting criteria that will be used to select the party's candidate vying for Kibra parliamentary seat.
According to Raila, ODM’s National Elections Board will rate the party loyalty of all candidates before clearing them for the August 31 primaries.
The preliminary process targets to throw out non-loyalists by determining several issues including when they joined the party.
"On Tuesday they will be vetted by the party to establish whether they are loyal members of the party or they have just come to contest," Raila said.
After the primaries are held, the nominee will be forwarded to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) by September 3, 2019.
"We want the exercise to be done in a peaceful environment because we want to show the country that Kibra is mature politically. If you do not win it is not the end of your political career," Raila said.
The ODM ticket has attracted interest from many candidates due to the popularity of the orange party in the area.
Another factor that makes ODM a coveted option is the possibility of the ruling Jubilee Party backing Raila's outfit as was the case for ODM in Embakasi South, Ugenya, Kitui and Migori.
