Central Organisation of Trade Unions boss Francis Atwoli has sensationally claimed that President Uhuru Kenyatta was intimidated to submission by DP William Ruto while making various government appointments.
Dr Ruto has been at loggerheads with his boss albeit silently, dismissing the ongoing fight against corruption as witch-hunt against people believed to be his close confidants.
On Saturday, Atwoli accused Ruto of fronting some of his close confidants to various government agencies, with President Uhuru Kenyatta having little objection to them.
He claimed that Dr Ruto has been using the same people to rob government, arguing that parastatals like NCPB and Kenya Pipeline constitutes of Ruto's supporters.
“We know that he (Ruto) intimidated President Kenyatta to appoint his people in key agencies like the Kenya Pipeline, Kenya Power, Cereals Board to steal for him,” Mr Atwoli alleged.
According to the veteran trade unionist, Dr Ruto has been sabotaging the fight against corruption from within, adding that Uhuru should consider getting rid of him.
“DP Ruto cannot pretend to be supporting the President on the war on graft when his lieutenants are going round the country discrediting the President,” Mr Atwoli said.
“You cannot term this (war on graft) an ethnic profiling when (Treasury) Principal Secretary Kamau Thugge and others have also been arraigned to answer to the charges,” he said.
For months now, Atwoli has been at loggerheads with the DP, who has instead chosen to remain silent on the allegations. At one point, Ruto accused him of being senile.
