Showdown looms on Monday during the Council of Governors elections as Deputy President William Ruto and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga Amolo fight to control the unit.
The elections bring together county bosses from 47 devolved units and both leaders are working around the clock to sway the influential body in their favour as the debate on the implementation of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) continues countrywide.
The current CoG chairman Wycliffe Oparanya is seeking to retain the position while DP Ruto has thrown his weight behind Mandera's Ali Roba to take over the position.
Oparanya has assured the participants in the exercise that the election will be free and fair, adding that it will reflect the will of the county bosses from all the devolved units.
He also said that the preparation for the elections are in top gear, adding that peace and unity must prevail after the exercise
“Preparations for the elections are ongoing. Governors will conduct their elections peacefully the way they have always done before,” Oparanya said.
Ruto has been fighting to outsmart Raila in different avenues. In the recent past, the DP has been opposed to the BBI tours across the nation.
He alludes that there is no reason to popularize a report that has already found its way to the public.
