Moi University Sacco members on Friday demonstrated in Eldoret town opposing the planned auction of Musco Towers without their involvement.
According to Jack Willis Abok Musco Sacco spokesman and the secretary-general of the University’s Academic Staff Union (UASU) Moi University chapter, the move is uncalled for and disrespectful to members.
“As members of the Sacco we will not allow the towers to be auctioned and yet we spent Sh400 million through savings and a bank loan to put up the structure in Eldoret’s central business district,” said Abok.
This follows the decision by the liquidators to place a public notice in one of the local dailies calling for interested buyers to purchase the building.
He spoke to the press in Eldoret town on Friday where members demanded a forensic audit of all financial activities of the Sacco citing embezzlement of funds and that former Sacco officials should be held responsible for the loss of funds.
“We are calling on the CS of Trade and cooperatives Peter Munya to intervene reinstate the Musco license to the members and rescue us from looters who want to enrich themselves through our sweat,” added the Musco Sacco spokesman.
They said they will not remain quiet while people are languishing in poverty yet they saved a lot of money with the Sacco.
Abok further urged CS Munya to invoke section 92/93 of the Cooperative Act(2019) to reinstate the Musco license
