Speaking on a Citizen TV morning programme on Thursday, renowned social and political commentator David Osiany congratulated the head of state for the bold move.

Mr Osiany contended that the war on corruption needed to shift from words to action.

"All talk and no action amounts to nothing. The fight against graft needs action. I congratulate the president for cancelling the Kimwarer dam project," David Osiany said.

President Uhuru cancelled the multi-billion project on grounds that it was financially and technically not viable.

An investigation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) found that the project was marred by irregularities, prompting the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji to press charges against Treasury officials.

Former Treasury CS Henry Rotich was charged alongside other officials over embarking on a project without prior planning among other charges.

The charges against Rotich triggered an outcry from a section of Rift Valley leaders who argued that the move was part of a plan to marginalise Rift Valley from development projects.

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen opined that the cancellation of the project was based on misinformation given to the president, adding that his county's residents were not engaged.

The legislator has vowed to ensure that justice prevails.
