As the 2022 succession politics within Mount Kenya continue to gather storm, Kiambu county remains one of central Kenya’s bedrock of votes. Kikuyu lawmaker Kimani Ichng'wah has been among the DP Ruto’s vocal hitmen in his political bastion.

His frequent attacks on ODM leader Raila Odinga and his brigade were once rampant that the mp became popular on local media.

Despite being a DP Ruto’s confidant, he now seems to have changed tact by going silent especially after the launch of the BBI report at Bomas of Kenya. What is evident now is the manner the outspoken legislator has kind of reduced vocal attacks on Raila.

The possible reason is that he does not want to risk losing president Uhuru Kenyatta’s blessings. Contextualizing that he won the Kikuyu seat without a competitor in 2017, he is carefully measuring what comes out of his mouth so as to remain politically relevant prior to 2022.

Since the president has remained categorical that he won’t entertain politicians who are engaging in early campaigns, Ichungwah is taking note of the directive.

A number of his constituents are president Uhuru’s loyalists thus he does not want his electorate to lose confidence in him.

Besides, he does not want to keep reading on a different script with most of the leaders from his home turf. He is very much careful not to commit political suicide before the 2022 elections.
