United States of America ambassador to Kenya Kyle McCarter on Thursday visited Nyamira County where he's expected to hold talks with area Governor John Nyagarama.
This is the first time a US envoy is visiting the South Nyanza county since the inception of Devolution in 2013.
Mr McCarter, who succeeded Robert Godec, was received by County Commissioner Amos Mariba before he was ushered to the governor's office.
Mr Kepha Miller, Deputy Director Governor's press, told Hivisasa that the envoy is expected to among others, address the issue of health and sanitation.
"We are receiving the US envoy this morning. It's one of the greatest milestone given that it's the first time we are having such a guest," Mr Miller said on phone.
"Key among the issues that we are expected to be discussed is supporting the health sector, water and sanitation. This are some of the areas where demand is high," he added.
Governor John Nyagarama has earmarked Health as one of the key areas he seeks to improve before he exits office in 2022.
Last month, the Polish government pumped Sh7 million to the health sector which was used to purchase heater at Nyamira County Referral Hospital besides building Nyansiongo Sub Hospital theatre.
A delegation also representing Governor John Nyagarama will be expected back home on Thursday after days of development meetings in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
McCarter has been visiting various counties since taking over.
The US is passionate about supporting education, health and safety among other key issues.
