Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi has weighed in dual citizenship law.
Speaking to Kenyans living in the State of New Jersey, USA, on Saturday, Mudavadi said that the law that requires anyone with dual citizenship not to assume a position in government is not only unrealistic but also ill-intended.
“It is confounding that the law should ask you to drop one of your citizenships in order for you to play your role for your motherland,” the ANC leader said.
He noted that Kenya is a growing nation, adding that all citizens are entitled to assume government positions as long as they are Kenyan citizens.
He also asked the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to ensure the country holds free and fair elections come 2022, adding that Kenyans expect to get good leaders in their offices.
Mudavadi made reference to the case of Mwende Mwinzi's case who is yet to assume office after it emerged that she holds American and Kenyan citizenships.
The South Korean Envoy nominee has since asked the court to allow her to be cleared for the position. She has also refused to renounce her dual citizenship to allow her to assume office.
