Claims that Deputy President William Ruto is being isolated by President Uhuru Kenyatta were again confirmed on Thursday when he missed Uhuru's function in Mombasa.

Despite being at the Coast, the DP was not present as the president met 24 governors, a meeting that took place at the Mombasa State House at 10 am.

The Standard reports that the DP later flew back to Nairobi on the same day, as the president and the county bosses deliberated on the popularization of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) push.

Ruto's Communication Director Emmanuel Tallam confirmed that the DP did not attend the function, saying that he had other meetings to attend in Nairobi.

“The DP had informal meetings in the afternoon with leaders from Kisii and Nyamira MPs and grass-root leaders’ the whole afternoon,” he said.

Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi, who attended the meeting, said that he cannot confirm if the DP was around.

“I really don’t know if he was around neither do I know if he was snubbed," he said.

As if to confirm the worsening relationship between Uhuru and Ruto, some Ruto allies took to social media, on the same day, to claim that he is being fought.

Soy MP Caleb Kositany and Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen assured the DP of brighter days ahead, though they claimed that he is having it rough currently.

The apparent snub came only days after the DP was sent out of his official residence in Mombasa.
