Nakuru governor Lee Kinyanjui has given a certain contractor two weeks' ultimatum to have the road repair works in place.
The Sh333 million tender project has been stalling since it was issued.
The Nakuru county boss stated that his administration won't stomach any further delays on the tender work.
Kinyanjui also pointed out how the poor state of the road had posted a negative impact on the business sector.
"As leaders, we have been pushing for this road and the contractor has been given two-week ultimatum within which the construction must begin," said the governor, as quoted by Standard.
"Businesses in the area have negatively been affected due to poor transport. The number of matatus plying the route has drastically reduced. People now have to use longer routes. The contractor must recognize the significance of this road to our people," he added.
The road in question not only link potato farmers to different markets but also serves as the only other route which can ease congestion for Kisumu-Eldoret-Nakuru travellers, whenever Nakuru highway is hit by heavy traffic.
According to Kerra Director Joseph Irungu, the works could have started in a month's time after striking the deal, but the case is totally different, two months down the line.
