Governor Ferdinand Waititu has pleaded not guilty before the Senate plenary in a unique sitting convened on Tuesday.
The Kiambu Governor is facing impeachment which if passed, would see him as the first county boss to succumb before an entire Senate trial.
In his 15 minutes speech, Waititu asked senators to reject the allegations against him, arguing that he is a victim of political competition.
"I am not guilty. Ever since I took office, I have been subjected to political witch-hunt by my detractors. They even pay bloggers to taint my name," he said.
He added: "The assembly did not have two-thirds of MCAs. We had only 57 of them. It's not the 62 as required. Please help me solve this political witch-hunt."
Governor Waititu will know his fate on Wednesday when the Senate vote in favor of or against the charges.
Earlier, Murang'a Senator Irungu Kang'ata had asked Senators to send Waititu home.
He tweeted: “Our counties have been looted left, right and centre. At least one chief executive of a county needs to go home to send the right message.”
“Senate needs to support HE efforts of fighting corruption. Tomorrow at the Senate's proceedings for Kiambu County- maybe this is it.”
