Moi Stadium in Kisumu is expected to be a beehive of activity next week after the international break. The stadium will host back to back Kenya Premier League (KPL) matches on Wednesday (November 20, 2019) and Thursday (November 21, 2019).
On Wednesday, it will be a clash between KPL newbies featuring home team Kisumu All Stars against visitors Wazito FC. On Thursday, Gor Mahia will host Kakamega Homeboyz at the same venue.
The match was initially planned to be played at the Machakos stadium on November 20, before Gor Mahia officials led by Chairman Ambrose Rachier wrote to KPL seeking for the match be rescheduled.
In September, Rachier declared that Gor Mahia will no longer host home matches at the Moi stadium due to low gate collections but two months later, he has now changed tune.
“We held fruitful talks and aired our grievances. The team from Kisumu promised to rectify what we had complained about and we agreed to return some of our home matches to Kisumu. We will see how it goes, our next match will act as a weigh scale, if we overcome our previous challenges, we will fully return the home matches to Kisumu,” Rachier is quoted by Nation.
Gor lead KPL standings with 18 points after seven matches. Homeboyz is second with 17 points, Wazito FC is ranked 12th with 10 points while Kisumu All Stars is 16th with 6 points.
