Residents of Bisil, Kajiado county on Monday night came to the rescue of a 9-year old girl after she was imposed to her 'husband' by the parents.
After a reliable tip-off from a pastor who is also an activist against early marriages, police, and children officers stormed into the home of 39-years old Parkuyaye Olmuyetari the 'husband' and apprehended him.
Olmuyeatri, however, seemed unmoved and emotionless after being arrested by officers who had posed as herders looking for their lost goats.
The girls father was also apprehended while the mother is still in hiding.
The reports have indicated that the class one pupil had serious injuries inflicted by her 'husband' and also from the circumcision, she underwent before the 'marriage'.
She was taken to Nairobi Women's hospital in Kitengela where she is undergoing treatment.
According to locals, this is the second time the class one girl has been rescued from early marriage, the first being March 2016.
Kajiado County commissioner Harsama Kello condemned the incident and urged chiefs to work with his office to wipe out such cruel cultures.
"We have the law for the children which is very clear, anybody found practising early marriages will be apprehended and taken to court," Kello said.
