The governing Jubilee party has been attacked for failing to do due diligence on former Harambee Stars forward McDonald Mariga before handing him the nomination certificate.
Sharing his perspective during a wide-ranging panel discussion on the Kenya Television Network (KTN), renowned analyst Didmus Mokua accused the party of treating Kenyans to a Mexican-type soap opera.
"What Jubilee is treating us is as good as those South American soaps you watch on TV when you are bored because there is no way a political party in the league of Jubilee would actually get a candidate whose name does not appear in the voter register, " Mr Mokua said. (18:00-18:25)
"When the electoral board was meeting, what did they do? Did they engage in any due diligence?" the analyst continued.
His intervention comes in the backdrop of questions around how the footballer was given a nomination certificate yet his name was missing in the voter register.
In a short press conference after being disqualified, Mariga expressed his shock at missing his name in the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
It emerged during the hearing of his appeal at the IEBC tribunal that he registered at the Kariokor Social Hall where he was issued with an acknowledgement slip.
Mr Mokua also took a swipe at Mariga for what he calls taking his registration casually.
A tribunal that heard the footballer's appeal is expected to give its verdict on Monday.
