Traders at Keroka market in Nyamira County have been warned against indiscriminate dumping of garbage.
Keroka police boss Walter Apondo argued that during this rainy season, drainage systems at the market have blocked as a result of careless dumping.
Apondo on Monday appealed to traders to dump their waste at designated areas to ensure the free flow of rainwater during this period the region is experiencing heavy downpour.
"Traders at Keroka market have been unable to operate smoothly due to flooding. Floods at the market are as a result of the blocked drainage systems. Careless dumping of waste by traders has caused rainwater to be stagnant at the market. I wish to urge traders to ensure they are dumping waste properly at recommended areas," said Apondo.
He challenged traders to keep off the market when it is raining for their own safety.
The police boss also appealed to garbage collectors at the market to collect garbage in time.
"We should all ensure we are living in a conducive and clean environment by dumping garbage properly. Let everyone stay safe during this rainy season," he added.
