A middle-aged woman died on Wednesday morning after falling into a toilet in Kawethei, Kangundo Sub County.
According to Kangundo Sub County administrator Benard Kilonzo, the stones from the toilet fell on the mother of one killing her on the spot.
Kilonzo said it is possible the toilet caved in due to heavy rains being experienced across the country.
The deceased's mother-in-law said she saw her daughter-in-law going to the toilet at around 8:30am. A few minutes later, she heard a loud bang and knew something was amiss.
"I heard a loud bang emanating from the toilet followed by a cry. I ran to the scene while calling for help but on reaching the place the whole toilet had crumbled and the woman was covered," she said.
The deceased's sister-in-law said by the time they managed to bring a rope to save the lady, the whole toilet had gone down in shambles.
"I was called and told Faustine had slipped and fallen in the toilet, but when we came with a rope to help her, she had been covered by the toilet stones," she said.
Officers from emergency services in Machakos County arrived and retrieved the body, after which it was taken to Kangundo level four hospital mortuary.
