Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have arrested Kitui County Finance boss June Mawiya Munyao as probe into graft claims continues.
Confirming the arrests, EACC Spokesman Yassin Amaro said that the sleuths also arrested Jeremiah Nguli Kisilu (Chairman of Tender Evaluation Committee) and Rodgers Makau Sande (Secretary of the Tender Evaluation Committee). He also said that the officers are targeting five more suspects from the county government for allegedly misappropriating of over Sh891 million.
“They have been arrested to face the law over procurement irregularities,” said Amaro.
The detectives are now looking for Joshua Kalola Munya (the Head of Supply Chain Management) and Shedrack Muli Munyithia( Chief Officer Lands) over tendering process at the county government.
The arrest of the officials comes after Uhuru declared that the war against graft will continue. In his state of the nation address, Uhuru said that he will not back down in the fight to end graft.
The head of state has said that he will ensure that all corrupt individuals will be brought to book before he completes his second and final term in power. President Uhuru also sacked Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri as he seeks to strengthen his government.
He also formally appointed Ukur Yatani as the Cabinet Secretary for National Treasury.
