Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen has dismissed statement by former Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo, insisting that he has no time for him.
On Monday, Murkomen, a close ally of DP William Ruto, wondered how Mr Kimaiyo knows about his 2022 plans yet he has not declared any ambitions.
Murkomen was first elected in 2013 and went on to defend the seat successfully during the 2017 polls on Jubilee party.
“How does he (Kimaiyo) know my plans for 2022? I have no time for such type of politics and he doesn’t deserve my attention,” Mr Murkomen said.
In an interview with the Nation, the former police boss said that he will be keen to dethrone Murkomen as Elgeyo-Marakwet County senator in 2022.
According to him, Murkomen started well but with time, lost touch with the people of Elgeyo-Marakwet County.
“God willing, I will vie again for the Senate seat in 2022. I am still ready to serve my people. I know their challenges and will be more than ready to provide solutions. This time round I will take it, just know that,” a confident Dr Kimaiyo said.
“During his first term he focused on issues affecting residents. But he has deviated from the role the people of Elgeyo-Marakwet gave him.”
But despite his warning, Murkomen could after all join gubernatorial race given that Governor Alex Tolgos is set to retire in 2022.
In 2017, Kimaiyo ran on KANU ticket but lost to Murkomen. The region is predominantly Jubilee and Deputy President William Ruto enjoys fanatical support.
