The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party secretary general Edwin Sifuna has claimed that Eliud Owalo is running in the Kibra parliamentary race as a project of Deputy President Dr William Ruto.
Mr Sifuna made the claims in an interview with controversial television show host Tony Gachoka that was aired on Wednesday night on the Standard Media Group-owned Kenya Television Network (KTN).
The renowned lawyer said that ODM had been told about Owalo being a DP Ruto project by Kakamega senator Cleophas Malala.
"Owalo was brought to Musalia Mudavadi as a project of William Ruto. Malala who is a member of ANC told us that, " Edwin Sifuna said.
Eliud Owalo was a former aide of veteran opposition and ODM supremo Raila Odinga.
He has strongly denied having any links to the deputy president.
The two fell out after Mr Owalo failed to win the ODM party's nomination in the lead up to the 2017 election.
He formally bailed out of ODM after the death of former Kibra member of parliament Ken Okoth rendered the constituency's seat vacant.
ODM has termed the decision of ANC to give Owalo the parliamentary race ticket betrayal of the worst order.
Musalia Mudavadi has dismissed the ODM attacks, saying that all parties have a democratic right to field candidates in the race.
Kibra is an ODM turf and has been been represented by Raila Odinga in the national assembly for many years.
