In a tweet, Mr Gathara called for Mariga to be asked to comment on the responsibility he is willing to take for the toll that the scourge of betting has had on the poor.

He also called for Mariga to be asked what his position is in the standoff between the government and betting firms.

"Has any KE media asked McDonald Mariga his views on sports betting: whether he accepts any responsibility for promoting it given the toll it has taken especially on poor youth;  and what he thinks of the @JubileePartyK government's stand-off with sports betting companies?" Patrick Gathara's tweet read.

The Kibra Parliamentary seat aspirant has been the face of the marketing of one of the betting firms in the country.

He has featured in countless Betin adverts, a fact that his detractors say should disqualify him from being given the opportunity to represent the people of Kibra.

Gambling has been shown to have affected the young and plunged them into financial ruin.

So far, no media organisation or journalist has bothered to ask Mariga questions on the issue of gambling.
