Funds used in the initiative are part of the Ward Development kitty.

Speaking at Kihoto on Saturday during the issuance of bursary cheques worth Sh1.8 million, area MCA Peter Karanja Mburu stated that this is in line with his development agenda.

According to the MCA, many families in the low-income areas of Lakeview Ward have been unable to access health services due to lack of health insurance.

He says the sponsorship will help address the challenge and ensure universal healthcare services to all the residents no matter the class.

“We have set aside Sh2 million that will see 350 households registered for the National Health Insurance Fund scheme,” said Karanja.

On matters bursary, the MCA revealed that his office will continue to reach out to all needy students at the grass-root level.

While assuring parents of fairness in the issuance of the bursary, Karanja noted that in this financial year 2019/2020, the bursary allocation has been doubled to Sh4 million so that more needy students can benefit from the same.

“The only way to transform our society is by ensuring that our children get quality education and that is why we have an increase in allocation for bursary in this financial year,” he said.

In addition, already 12 needy students in the area have benefited from the MCA’s Foundation that he says is meant to transform the lives of residents in his ward.

Under the Foundation, needy students who qualify to National schools are able to get sponsorship.

The MCA also reiterated the need for parents to ensure their children who do not make it to secondary or college are able to join tertiary institutions to gain technical knowledge and skills that can help transform their lives.

According to the MCA, through collaboration with the National government, such students will be able to get grants ranging from Sh15,000 and Sh30,000.
