Nyamira County Commissioner Amos Mariba has fired warning shots to cattle rustlers following the loss of two cows belonging to KNUT treasurer John Matiang'i.
Speaking on Monday in Nyamira town, Mr Mariba lamented the escalating cases of livestock theft in Nyamira County, adding that he's determined to combat the vice.
"Cattle rustlers stole two cows belonging to John Matiang'i on Monday morning. Luckily, police officers acted swiftly after an alarm was raised and managed to recover them. They escaped on foot and abandoned the cows at Chepng'ombe area," said Mariba.
He said that probe is ongoing to arrest the thieves, adding that livestock theft cases are at the peak in Borabu sub-county.
The commissioner reiterated the need for members of the public to cooperate with police officers by reporting the identities of the culprits.
"We have enough police officers to conduct patrols day and night to ensure cattle rustlers stealing livestock at night are brought to book.
"Members of the public should help police to arrest lazy thieves who are using short cuts to earn a living," said Mariba.
