Renowned blogger Robert Alai has opined that Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru's support for former Prime Minister Raila Odinga is not sincere.
Lately, Waiguru has been vocal in rallying the vote-rich Mt Kenya to back Raila for presidency in the 2022 general election.
But according to Alai, the governor was working for Raila's opponents who were eager to have him run for the top seat since he (Odinga) is 'easy' to defeat.
In a tweet on Sunday, the blogger claimed Raila's competitors will not break any sweat in 2022 if the ODM boss joins race to the State House.
"Waiguru is part of the plan to force a Raila candidature in 2022. His opponents know that he'll be the easiest person to beat since his post-election antics are predictable. They know that when enticed enough, Raila won't resist attempting to run," Alai posted.
However, political analyst Prof Herman Manyora disagreed with Alai, saying Raila was determined to attempt to clinch power for the fifth time, and doesn't not need to be enticed to do so.
"It’s not being enticed, it’s not being forced; it’s the reality that Raila will run in 2022. And, no, he’s not easy to beat," the University don tweeted.
In the meantime, Waiguru has continued drumming up support for the former Prime Minister, urging Mt Kenya leaders to rally behind him, since Kenyans won't accept another Kikuyu or Kalenjin president.
“We are urging Mt. Kenya leaders to start thinking about it because we have woken up in 2019. I do not see this country accepting another rule of only a Kalenjin and a Kikuyu. We, therefore, must start thinking about how we accommodate our other brothers and sisters in Kenya. That is why I have said I welcome Raila Odinga to Mt. Kenya region,” she said on Friday in Nyeri County.
