A Kisumu based football analyst wants the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Wafula Chebukati to deny former Harambee Stars and Inter Milan midfielder Macdonald Mariga a chance to vie for the Kibra Parliament seat on the ruling Jubilee Party’s ticket.

Dennis Mogendi, popularly known as Mosh Junior said Mariga should be stopped from vying for the seat because ‘it was not his decision to vie’ in the first place.

“I hope Mariga is stopped from contesting for the seat because I believe it was not his decision to vie. I feel somebody is pushing him,” he said in an exclusive interview on Saturday. The analyst claimed he sees Deputy President William Ruto’s hand in Mariga’s running.

“By joining politics, Mariga has made one of the worst mistakes of his life. I can see Deputy President William Ruto’s hand in his bid. They (Ruto and Mariga) are very good friends,” he said.

Shortly after being handed Jubilee’s ticket, Mariga got a blow after IEBC disqualified him from the race because his details were missing from the voter’s register. He appealed the decision.

A final decision on his candidature is expected to be made by the Wafula Chebukati led commission on Monday, September 16.

The Kibra Parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of former MP, Ken Okoth in July. The by-election to elect a new MP will be conducted on November 07.
