The thieves allegedly made away with cows, goats and sheep during the nights, only for the residents to wake up to empty pens the next day.

Robert Kamande of Kidawa Village, Rurii in Ol Kalou constituency says that he lost eight sheep on one night. He says that the thieves also slaughtered two of his dairy cows.

“I woke up to find the pen open with the sheep missing. The sheep sleep next to my house. The theft came about a month after they stole and slaughtered two of my dairy cows,” he recounted.

At Mwihaki Meiya's home in Kwa Haraka in Kinangop, the thieves slaughtered her cow within her compound.

She suspects that the thieves are either from the area or are working with people from around.

"I believe the thugs are from within or the thefts are coordinated by someone from this area. They had all the time to slaughter the cow within my compound which is located next to the Njabini-Engineer highway. We appeal for improved police patrols along the highways,” she said.

Gachau Njoroge of Kieni in Ol Kalou lost 12 sheep while Ben Rutinyu, another victim, lost eight sheep.
