Juja OCPD Dorothy Migarusha has said that the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) student in a viral video doing rounds online sustained no injuries.
In an exclusive interview with Citizen Digital, Migarusha said that the student, who has been identified as Allan Omondi is doing fine. She said that the police arrested the student and took him to police custody after the incident.
“He has no injuries but anybody who has viewed the video knows that is an impracticality. There is a procedure which those arrested while injured undergo but huyo kijana ako sawa (that boy is fine)” she said.
The video of the Omondi, who is a Food Science and Technology student in his 4th year, has elicited mixed reactions online with leaders calling for the arrest and interdiction of the officers behind the same.
The student landed in trouble when he joined his fellow comrades to protest against increased cases of insecurity at the institution. In the video, four police officers are seen kicking the young man from different angles.
Police IG Hillary Mutyambai has directed the special unit to ensure the officers are arrested and action taken against them with immediate effect after public uproar. It remains unclear what transpired before the students were brutalized.
