Former Buffalo School of Law dean Prof Makau Mutua has alleged that deputy president William Ruto is in a dilemma over the BBI report.
In a tweet on Saturday, the distinguished professor argued that the DP was at crossroads because he was faced with only two tough choices concerning the initiative. He referred to the dilemma s as 'devil' and 'deep-sea'.
According to the US-based Kenyan scholar, if the deputy president decides to fully join the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) team to drum up support for the report, he would be indirectly supporting his fierce rival and ODM leader Raila Odinga who was among the chief architects of the same.
In Prof Mutua's opinion, if the DP chooses to oppose the BBI idea, then he would be going against president Uhuru Kenyatta who was among the team that conceptualized it.
"It’s clear @WilliamsRuto is caught between the DEVIL and the DEEP BLUE SEA. If he joins @TheRealBBI meets, he does so as @RailaOdinga SUBORDINATE. If he doesn’t join, he OPPOSES his BOSS. Damned if he does, damned if he doesn’t."Noted Makau Mutua.
Deputy President William Ruto has not been very vocal in articulating his firm position regarding the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) concept.
Initially, the DP had opposed the idea, claiming that Kenyans were never consulted while being pieced together.
However, he later made a U-turn and alleged that he was in support of it after it was released.
