Kenyans must be ready for the presidency of Raila Odinga in 2022, Embakasi East Member of Parliament Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino has asserted.
Babu said the ODM party leader will take over power from President Uhuru Kenyatta, but noted before that happens, there will be a referendum.
"We must change the constitution and Raila MUST be the PRESIDENT in 2022. Kenyans must prepare for a Referendum to avoid loss of lives and destruction of properties after elections," Babu tweeted on Friday.
Both Uhuru and Raila have been calling for electoral reforms to end the winner-takes-it-all approach in polls, which they claim was the root cause of post-election violence.
Among suggestions which have been fronted to end chaos after polls is the creation of prime minister's post and 2 deputy prime ministers.
The remarks came just hours after the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) concluded public hearings where it collected views from Kenyans on how to address the main challenges facing the country such as divisive elections.
There have been speculations that the team, born last year from Uhuru-Raila handshake, will recommend a referendum which has already received the backing of major political players.
However, Thirdway Alliance party leader Ekuru Aukot, who is behind Punguza Mizigo Bill 2019, has dismissed the BBI claiming it was Uhuru's gift to his foe-turned-ally ahead of next elections.
“I think Uhuru sympathised so much with Raila that he decided to give him a political gift of campaigning for 2022, because... how come out of the nine points none them says go collect views to seek to amend the Constitution,” Aukot said on Wednesday night during Point Blank Show on KTN.
