Isiolo North MP Hassan Odha has decried increased cases of youths joining terror-related groups from the region.
Speaking at Ikhlas Academy in Tuluroba on Tuesday, the lawmaker said that cases of youths dropping out of their schools to join criminal gangs have become rampant in the recent past.
He asked the general public to support the police in the fight to end the radicalization of youths in different parts of the country.
He noted that the Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU) and detectives require the support from the members of the public to smoke out radicalized youths from their hideouts.
He argued that most parents and teachers among other groups of persons have failed to help the government by sharing critical information that can lead to the countering of these cases in the region.
“We will not allow recruitment of our youths into terror groups to continue. If they have to do it, let them recruit their own children. There is no turning back on this. We must end radicalisation,” Odha said.
He also asked the government to work with other organizations to ensure that the youth of this nation are empowered in different areas of life to avoid being radicalized at the end of the day.
The remarks come at a time when terror attacks have been on the rise in the country.
