Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has been moved to Kenyatta National Hospital after reportedly falling ill overnight.
Reports indicate that he was examined by a medical officer at the Kamiti Maximum Prison before being transferred to KNH.
He is currently undergoing treatment at the facility.
On Monday, Sonko's lawyer Cecil Miller asked the court to grant him bail so that he can seek treatment, adding that the governor was assaulted by police during his arrest on Friday.
“I have with me a medical report by Dr Esther Nafula Wekesa…which states that Sonko should be granted bail to seek medical attention as he has developed chest complications with possible rib fractures… EACC’s doctor compliments this report…” he said in part.
The court urged both parties to be present in court on Wednesday December 11, for a ruling on Sonko's bail application.
The governor has maintained that he is innocent, adding that his arrest is political.
"I am convinced that my arrest was politically schemed and designed to humiliate and embarrass me. There was no point for the deployment of a police helicopter, more than 25 police cars, and 200 police officers to locate and arrest me, while we all know that, on the same material day, there was terror attack in Wajir County," Sonko said in a statement.
