A cloud of grief has struck Garissa residents following the death of Mzee Ali Osman Ibrahim alias Ali Ethiopia who was a peace ambassador.
He succumbed to illness at a Nairobi hospital on Sunday evening.
Garissa Governor Ali Korane led Garissa leaders in condoling his family on Monday.
"I am deeply saddened by the passing on of Mzee Ali Osman Ibrahim (Ali Ethiopia). I extend my heartfelt sympathy to his family during this trying time of grief. May Allah grant him an eternal abode in Jannah and may his family gather the strength to cope with his passing. Inna Lillah Waa Inaa Ileyhi Raji'un," said Korane.
Garissa Woman Representative added: "It’s with deep regret that we mourn the death of Aba Ali Ethiopia who just passed away in Nairobi. The late has been instrumental in fostering peace and unity among the locals in Garissa. He was a respectable somali elder and a man who greatly contributed to the welfare of the people. I paid him a visit this afternoon and he was in great pain."
