John Walukhe arrived at the Harambee Grounds on a motorbike, some metres away from the Mumias Stadium where they planned to hold their rally.

“Raila has, for long, been duping Western Kenya constituents that he has our welfare at heart. That is not true. We want to meet today and talk about the problems facing the Western Kenya people, and discuss the possible solutions to the problems. We do not want to talk about the BBI politics," Mr Walukhe told K24 Digital.

When they learned that the police were trailing them, the MPs allied to the Deputy President Dr William Ruto fled to Sianda Market where they planned to address their supporters.

The police issued a letter explaining the basis of the cancellation of the meeting that was to be addressed by Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula.

Politicians allied to DP Ruto have decried the cancellation as the state's attempt to muzzle politicians who have opposed the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

A parallel meeting was being held at the Bukhungu stadium and was to be graced by ODM leader Raila Odinga.
