Baringo Senator Gideon Moi and Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi on Saturday joined Kenyans in mourning victims of West Pokot landslides.
In his message, Moi wished quick recovery to the survivors of the tragedy.
“On behalf of myself, my family and the people of Baringo, I send my condolences to the families affected and the people of West Pokot and also wish quick recovery to those recuperating in hospitals,” Moi said as quoted by Standard.
He urged the government to be on high alert for such incidences, adding that regular assessment should be conducted on areas which are susceptible to landslides, and people evacuated on time.
“Given the heavy rains that will continue to be witnessed in parts of the country, the government through the provincial administration should move fast and assess danger spots and sensitize residents while putting emergency services on high alert for swift, rapid response,”Moi said
On his part, Sonko sympathized with the bereaved family and promised to join in the rescue mission.
"I will be joining hands with all Kenyans of goodwill to provide the affected families with the necessary humanitarian assistance, especially the women and children who are reported to be worst affected," Sonko posted on Facebook.
