In an interview with the Citizen TV, aired on Saturday, Mudavadi bashed Raila, suggesting that all his latest moves are basically aimed at securing himself power.

This contributed to the Standard newspaper's Sunday head story, where Mudavadi is quoted as saying that Raila is only after state power.

"All Raila wants is power," Mudavadi is quoted by the Standard as having said during the interview at his rural home in Sabatia, Vihiga county.

Reacting to the headline, Etale, a close ally of Raila, seemed to suggest that indeed its power being sought, wondering why the former Vice President is trying to distance himself from the truth.

In a tweet, he noted that similarly, Mudavadi too is after power and should stop behaving as if he is after other things.

"As if he wants cookies... some leaders pthoo," Etale tweeted.

Mudavadi's remarks were in reaction to Raila's full involvement in the push for constitutional amendments through the  Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

During the interview, the ANC party leader who has declared interest for the presidency in 2022 doubted if the referendum push is aimed at bettering the lives of Kenyans as is being claimed by forces surrounding the former Prime Minister.
