Just a day after the world marked Day of Older Persons, Kabazi Ward MCA Dr Peter Mbae has urged the National Assembly to expedite the petition he presented to the house concerning the elderly, Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) as well as Persons Living with Disabilities (PWDs).
In the petition, the Nakuru MCA is seeking the MPs to ensure the government helps the three categories of citizens to access medical care through NHIF.
Dr Mbae argues that these vulnerable citizens in the society are today being turned away from hospitals because the NHIF cards they were given do not have funds.
This, he says, has led to the vulnerable citizens to live in poverty, diseases and pre-mature deaths across the country.
“Yesterday was International Day of Older Persons, I urge the National Assembly to expedite the petition I have sent before it concerning the elderly, Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) and PLWds,” said Mbae on Wednesday.
The petition also seeks to ensure that there is a continuous registration and updates on the exact number of the elderly, and other vulnerable groups in society.
