A bleeding disorder is a serious health condition. It occurs when the platelets fail to form clots that prevent excessive bleeding.
Normally, after getting an injury, platelets clump together to form fibrin clots around the injured area. When platelets fail to work properly, excessive bleeding is the aftermath.
This could mean you are suffering from a blood disorder. The disease is caused by several factors including vitamin K deficiency, low red blood cells count and using certain medications.
Elaine K. Luo, MD, an internal medicine physician, highlights the symptoms of the bleeding disorder;
1. Unexplained and easy bruising
Bruises appear on the skin due to trauma. Do you easily get bruised after being hit or scratched? If yes, this could mean you have a blood disorder. Some bruises appear mysteriously and you might not notice them because they appear with some pain.
2. Frequent nose bleeding
This should raise your eyebrows because it is not a normal condition. There are myriad underlying causes of nose bleeding. Blood disorder has been identified as one of them.
While nosebleeds are innocuous and easily controlled, you need to know they are associated with blood disorders. Try seeing a doctor for medical advice.
3. Excessive bleeding from small cuts or injuries
Another sign that explains you are suffering from blood disorder is excessive bleeding from minor injuries. This means that your body is either not producing enough platelets or the components known for forming fibrin clots in response to injuries have ceased to function.
