A Nakuru court has granted a family of a man buried 21 years ago permission to exhume his body.
According to the family of late Henry Mukuria who lives in Kiambogo, his grave has been exposed thus they wanted to exhume his remains and relocate them to a safer place.
Appearing before Nakuru Senior Resident Magistrate Yvonne Khatambi on Wednesday, the family were allowed to exhume the body.
“The honourable court is hereby pleased to grant leave to the applicants to exhume the body of the late Henry Mukuria for the relocation of his graveyard,” read the order of the court as quoted by Standard Digital
Mukuria widow Rebecca Wangui and her daughter Martha Wambui made an application to the court on 30 October, 2019.
This was after the Chief Officer Public health in Nakuru directed them to court after they had asked for their permission to have the body exhumed.
They associated the exposure of Mukuria to continued sand harvesting in the area.
The two noted that the grave is on the borderline of the farm and their neighbours farm who harvest sand. They thus requested to have it moved to a safer place within the same farm.
“The grave is currently in the worst condition because it lies along the boundary,” read part of documents filed in court as quoted by the Standard Media.
