A man might spend the rest of his life in prison,  after a court in Homa Bay County convicted him for defilement.

Wilfred Ondeki Kibeti was arraigned before Oyugis Senior Resident Magistrate Celesa Okore on Friday, and charged with defiling the 10-year-old between October 19 and 20 this year.

The magistrate heard that the crime was done at Kodera South Location in Rachuonyo South Sub County, within Homa Bay County.

She was also told that the man sexually assaulted the girl who is a class one pupil.

The accused was also charged with a second crime of  intentionally committing an indecent act of touching the minor's private parts in the course of committing the first crime.

The accused pleaded guilty to the charges, pleading with the court for leniency while handing down its sentence.

Apart from taking his guilty plea, Justice Okore also took to account medical reports which confirmed that he indeed committed the crime, sentencing him to life imprisonment.

The magistrate termed the case serious, dismising Mr Kibeti's leniency pleas, on grounds that such actions must be condemned by the society.

He convict was given a 14-day period within which he can appeal the ruling.

Sexual crimes are listed among capital offences in Kenyan law.
