Speaking in his constituency on Saturday, the outspoken investigative journalist turned politician told off those criticising him for publicly traversing the country with the country's second in command.

He strongly rejected charges that his political association was an act of betrayal, saying that development had come to his constituency thanks to being close to Dr Ruto.

"Somebody has told me, "You are walking with Ruto, you have betrayed us. How is that betrayal when I am bringing money here? How is that betrayal when I am bringing development here?... What has that Karubandika who's saying we've betrayed him brought to Nyali?

(Mtu ameniambia wewe unatembea na Ruto umetusaliti. Sasa nakusaliti vipi na mimi nakuletea pesa hapa? Nakusaliti vipi na mimi nakuletea maendeleo hapa?... Sasa huyo karubandika anasema tumemsaliti, ameleta nini Nyali?)" The Nyali MP said.

Mohamed Ali has been a staunch supporter of the deputy president, a reality that has not sat well with Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) supporters.

He fell out with Raila Odinga after the 2017 ODM nominations for the Nyali parliamentary seat after he lost to a relative of Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho.

The MP claimed then that he had been rigged out and left ODM in protest.

Pundits observe that his association with DP Ruto is an expression of his disgust at the treatment he underwent in ODM.
