Karua had objected the outcome of the Kirinyaga gubernatorial contest. According to Karua, the results do not reflect the will of the people from the region.

Karua had moved to the Supreme Court to appeal her cases after the Court of Appeal dismissed the same citing lack of sufficient evidence.

The judges of the Court of Appeal ruled that Karua had failed to prove her case during the hearing of the case.  The politician had accused Waiguru, also Former Devolution Cabinet Secretary, of bribing voters to gain an advantage over her during the gubernatorial election in 2017.

Karua claimed that Waiguru has been using underhand tactics to gain an advantage over her in the courtroom.

She alluded that she was aware of the court ruling even before it was delivered thereby raising eyebrows

“For a respondent who never came to court during the hearing, but comes to court for judgment complete with a battery of media in tow and a celebration party, leaves one wondering whether she was aware of the outcome,” said Karua, as quoted by Citizen Digital.

On her part, Waiguru opines that she won the election in a free and fair manner.
