Center for Disease Control (CDC) released a report on15th September 2017, saying that suicide is the third leading cause of death among young people aged between 10 and 24. What can really drive a teenager to take his or her own life? He is not paying bills. He is not taking care of a family. He does not have work pressures. He is not wanted by the police. He is just either in school, college or University. Well, it looks that simple on face value but deep inside, there are some other factors which can prompt a young person to consider suicide.
Drug abuse
When a young person gets addicted to hard drugs like heroin, cocaine, and bhang, it reaches a point where he feels the society does not want him. This feeling of being useless and unwanted can drive him to take his life and end it all. Drug addiction can easily cause depression. Prolonged depression can prompt someone to have suicidal thoughts.
Sexual Assault
A young person who has been sexually assaulted will tend to have suicidal thoughts especially if he or she is not taken through a proper healing mechanism. Some rape victims fear to report to the hospital. They thus forfeit treatment and/or counseling. They live with this ghost and when it gets to unbearable points, they decide to end their lives in a bid to escape the internal suffering.
Unending Suffering
Life can box you in a tight corner. Other people take it by the horns while others give up. Suffering caused by extreme poverty can make a young, weak mind to think about suicide. You find that a young boy loses both her parents and then he is forced to drop out of school and fend for his younger siblings. His relatives turn a blind eye and the boy suffers year in, year out. Not all make it through that kind of life. Some to decide to commit suicide because the suffering has become too much to bear.
Disappointments
A young adolescent boy may decide to take his life just because his girlfriend has left him for another person.Yes, this has been recorded as a major cause of suicide among teenagers. Teens who do not know how to manage their feelings end up along this horrible path. According to a health site www.livestring.com, rejection by a loved one or failure in exams may trigger suicidal thoughts among young people.
