Four people have been confirmed dead after a cholera outbreak was reported in Trans Nzoia county.
Seven others have been admitted to the Kitale Level Four hospital and are receiving treatment, medics said on Tuesday after the disease hit Kipsango area.
Kitale Deputy County Commissioner Emmanuel Wanjala said both the national and county government have taken decisive measures to contain the disease that can kill in less than 24 hours.
Wanjala said those who will show signs of the disease that dehydrates the body will be isolated and given specialised treatment.
"It is true we have confirmed the disease's outbreak. Authorities are working round the clock to ensure it does not spread," Wanjala said on Tuesday as he spoke to journalists in Kitale town.
"Authorities are also working with organisation like Kenya Red Cross to help supply clean water."
The disease was reported about six months after it hit Kitale town although no casualties were reported.
Wanjala said there are reports that those who succumbed to the ailment are people who collected water at a burst pipe in Kitale town, calling on residents to ensure they boil the water before drinking it.
He said the Water ministry has promised to ensure a constant supply of clean water.
